System and Software Requirements

General System Requirements for All Courses

Required

NOTE: You must have these four major browsers on your system for checking your Web pages. You are only allowed to have one version of Internet Explorer on your PC system unless you have a partition with separate system software.

Recommended:

Software and Textbooks:

Most courses do not require textbooks as extensive notes are provided and many courses do not require special software.

NOTE: Once you are a student at BCIT you are eligible for academic pricing on software through the BCIT bookstore at http://www.bcit.ca/bookstore/. Academic prices can be as little as 1/3 the retail price of software. The BCIT bookstore ships worldwide. There are other outlets that handle educational versions of software (such as JourneyEd and Studica) but you will need some academic identification to take advantages of these prices. At the BCIT bookstore you simply supply your BCIT student number. In most instances, academic versions of software are identical to retail versions but the license requires that this software not be used for commercial purposes. In most instances, academic versions of software may be upgraded to “regular” versions.

However, if you are clever, you may still be able to locate individual product such as “Adobe Photoshop CS6” using a search of the Adobe site. We are not sure how long that availability may last. If you sign up for a Creative Cloud membership and wish to cancel it after this course, this is relatively easy to do. Contact your instructor for other options.

MDIA 3206: Audio and Video Technologies for Web Publishing

Software: There is a much wider range of software available for this course than for any of our other courses. Complete details are available in the current course outline. Much of the software required is free and some of it is built into your operating system. Assuming that your involvement in this technology might be limited to this course the basic tools recommended should cost you no more than $30.
